Allegations were leveled that the original witness and he was likely to know more than anyone else about the cause of his death. Medical evidence and a fireworks expert's report also supported this version. The prosecution's trial did not begin, and the clear value and fact of the defendant's statements had to be determined by the trial court after the recording.
